Chitosan (Poly-D-Glucosamine), obtained by deacetylation of chitin which is removing the acetyl groups (CH3-CO-). 

The degree of acetylation is generally lower than 20%. 


White/Off-white, innocuous, flavorless, pearly color schistic or powdery, dissolved at 185°C. Chitosan is insoluble in 

water, organic solvents, and aqueous bases and it is soluble after stirring in acids such as acetic, nitric, 

hydrochloric, perchloric, and phosphoric. 

1. Medical Grade chitosan

Biological functions

Chitosan is shown to be a unique hemostatic and antibacterial barrier. It combines 

the red blood cells which have negative charges making it an efficient hemostatic 

agent. The red blood cells create a seal over the wound, stop bleeding quickly and 

start the healing process.

2. Food Grade Chitosan

Chitosan Oligosaccharide can be applied in fruit and vegetable preservation because they keep the 

ruit and vegetable fresh. Chitosan Oligosaccharides can be added to the spices, dairy products, and 

fruit juice, which can both enrich the taste of products, and improve the nutrition. 

Other usages: thickeners, fruit juice clarifying agent, forming agent, and adsorbent. 

3.  Industry Grade Chitosan

Chitosan has been a registered pesticide (OPP No. 128930) that is active ingredients in anti-

microbial pesticides(Biofungicide) , plant growth regulator(enhancer) and plant defense booster 

which defending against fungal infections, is also approved as an EPA List 4B inert ingredient. In 

these uses, chitosan is applied to treat field crops, ornamentals, turf, home gardens, and nurseries. 

Target pests include early and late blight, downy and powdery mildew, and gray mold.

4.  Industral Grade Chitosan


Chitosan has unique characteristics of positively charged; it can absorb heavy metal ion of 

negatively charged. Chitosan has function of ion exchange and chelating effect.


Chitosan has good adsorption characteristics of heavy metal ion, applied in treatment of 

organic wastewater, dye wastewater, water purification and textile industry.

Chitosan can be also applied in paper-making industry, improving the dry and wet strength 

of paper and surface printability.
